Upcycled Vintage Art Pop-Up in the Curiosa Common Room

Date: Saturday, April 19th, 2025
Time: 11:00am - 5:00pm

✨ One Day Only: Upcycled Vintage Art Pop-Up at Curiosa ✨

Step into the Curiosa Common Room on Saturday, April 19th from 11am to 5pm for a very special Pop-Up featuring the enchanting work of local artist Heather Castles from Upcycled Vintage Art!

Heather breathes new life into forgotten paintings and prints, subtly weaving in imagery from some of the most beloved fandoms. She locally sources art that’s been mass produced or damaged - pieces that might otherwise end up forgotten or in the landfill - and subtly paints in unexpected elements to give them a fresh, modern twist. By blending nostalgia with pop culture, she transforms the ordinary into something delightfully new - inviting us to imagine that these fictional elements were always there, secretly captured by the original artist long ago. Perfect for those who want to quietly celebrate their nerdiness!

At the Curiosa Common Room Pop-Up you will find both framed and unframed prints available for purchase, a selection of framed original artworks on display, and the rare chance to peek into Heather’s creative process. Whether you're a collector, a fellow maker, or simply curious, this is the perfect opportunity to explore the world of Upcycled Vintage Art!

✨ Free to attend, and all are welcome!

Wander in, discover something unexpected, and perhaps leave with a little piece of magic!

About the Artist
Heather is the creative force behind Upcycled Vintage Art, where she gives forgotten paintings and prints a second life by subtly adding in pop culture references—what she affectionately calls “subtle-nerd-art.” A trained artist from the Alberta College of Art and Design and Capilano University, Heather works with traditional materials like paint and charcoal (never Photoshop), turning old canvases into clever, one-of-a-kind pieces that feel like fine-art graffiti.

As a full-time mum and lifelong geek, Heather blends her love of fandoms with a thoughtful, eco-conscious approach. Every step of her process—from sourcing artwork to shipping—is rooted in using vintage, repurposed, or recyclable materials. Her work is perfect for those who want to celebrate their nerdiness in a quiet, artful way.
