This journal is a precise replica of a Stil der Neorenaissance design from 19th-century Germany. The original, made of metal and gold-plated, was intricately engraved by master craftsmen. The design emulates the cloisonné technique, where metal surfaces are sectioned and filled with materials like glass, gemstones, or enamel, then kiln-fired to bond with the metal.

The prototype for this journal, a late 19th-century German binding, combines detailed engravings and enamel, once more common in jewelry and weaponry. As book demand grew with increasing literacy, elegant bindings became sought after.
